Lambda Nu Omega Chapter
Waukegan, Illinois - Chartered: May 27, 1977
Lambda Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on May 27, 1977. Thoughts of chartering a chapter milled in the mind of Isabelle Buckner a Lake County resident and principal of Carmen-Buckner Elementary School. Buckner, a young visionary educator sponsored a round-up in her home on February 8, 1976. After meeting with 19 interested sorority members, the effort of those gathered were put into action and eventually led to the chartering of Lambda Nu Omega Chapter at the Waukegan Public Library. Central Regional Director Gloria Bond of South Bend, IN performed the chartering ritual. Present for this event were Ordie Roberts, past Central Regional Director, and Loraine R. Green, the sorority's second international president. Bernice I. Sumlin was the international president at the time and was unable to attend the chartering event. Lambda Nu Omega is distinguished as one of the first Divine Nine organizations to be chartered in Lake County, IL. Lambda Nu Omega Chapter will never forget Isabelle Buckner.
In the 38 years since its chartering, Lambda Nu Omega Chapter has carried out the motto "Service To All Mankind" through various chapter events, programs and activities.
